As a turbulent 2020 draws to a close, the BPS Foundation is excited to reflect on the many successes we celebrated this year. From awarding the highest amount to date in student scholarships ($20,000 to eight deserving graduates), to being able to fulfill PPE requests in a time of unprecedented need, the BPS Foundation in honored to stand by the District to lend support.

We fund these vital programs using revenue from the Kids’ Time before-and-after school childcare program combined with corporate sponsorships and individual donations. The collective impact of these funding sources has allowed the BPS Foundation to give an estimated $600,000 back to the District in the last five years. 

While our dedication to the District remains steadfast, the reach of our programs and the legacy of the BPS Foundation is in jeopardy. 

During the last eight months, restrictions related to COVID-19 have dramatically impacted the Foundation’s two main funding sources: our annual fundraising Gala, typically held in October, and the Kids’ Time childcare program. 

With the safety and well-being of our supporters, caregivers and students our top priority, Kids’ Time has been forced to operate at only 50 percent capacity, creating a significant funding deficit. 

At the same time, our Gala event, which typically accounts for nearly 50 percent of the BPS Foundation’s annual support to the District, was eliminated leaving many programs, like our flagship playground equipment improvement grant initiative, unfunded this year.   

Despite these funding shortfalls, our schools, students and educators still need the necessary resources and opportunities for advanced achievement the Foundation has provided for more than 30 years.
